Restaurant Design

Restaurant Design

Like most other businesses, the restaurant trade has had to adapt to progress in changing styles and tastes. These days with so many cookery programmes on television showing us how we 'should' cook it could even be said that cookery and certainly food presentation is an artform in itself.

Since the early days of “novelle cuisine” the emphasis has been on how the plate looks as well as how good the food is to eat. Eating out has come a long way in a relatively short period of time.

Even going back to the early 1970's there were very few restaurants compared with today, certainly most regions including cities such as Chester would have very few restaurants to choose from and those available were invairably fairly dark and ominous places to visit, with an overbearing maitre d' and a sneering sommelier serving obscure food and wine, you would hardly consider calling these places inviting...more of a challenge.

Fortunately times changed and with the advent of more selection there came a much more relaxed but competitive industry. Increased food hygene inspection also meant food quality improved immeasurably as well. Everywhere you went choice were more readily available, with yet more and more different styles of cooking from all corners of the globe. Each type of restaurant's style has changed over time as well. If you are old enough to remember eating out in an Indian restaurant in the late 1970's it is a quite different experience today....in most cases.

But have we peaked? A latest poll has shown a drop for the first time ever in numbers of people eating out. If Chester restaurants or anywhere for that matter aren't careful maybe we will see a reversal in quantity. Back to the 1970's? I hope not.

Selecting Granite Kitchen Worktop Color

Granite has become one of the most popular choices for kitchen worktops. It is natural, versatile and high-end. It is also available in a number of colors. You will get in light color like white, gold or sand and also in dark color like black and green. Neutral shades like beige; grey and brown are also available in the market. With so many options around, it may seem to be a difficult job for you to select the right color for your granite kitchen worktop.

Follow the instructions given below in order to make the right selection.

  1. In order to check your options, visit a home improvement store, kitchen design store or a granite fabricator. Go to stores with huge collection so that you can see the full range of colors available in the market. Check various stores to compare the colors as well as the pricing. You can also go online and check samples to get an idea about worktops available in different shades.

  1. Get some samples from manufacturers. You can buy the samples or borrow them. This means a little investment. But it will help you to select the right option. Once you get a few samples hold them up to your cabinet. See which one is in harmony with your floor color.

  1. If you want to change your granite worktop at regular intervals, then you should also consider the resale value of a worktop while buying it. In that case it is better to go for a neutral shade because everyone doesn’t have the same taste. Choosing a worktop with a neutral shade with ensure that you can resale it with ease.

  1. Granite kitchen worktops come in trendy colors as well. If you are not going to resale the worktop, then you can go for a trendy color.

  1. Consider the lighting of your kitchen while selecting the color. If your kitchen is airy and have enough natural light, you can opt for a dark shade. Otherwise a light shade is preferable.

Keeping these points in mind will help you to select the right color for your granite kitchen worktop.

Your Home in Black and White

I am here to suggest that black and white colour schemes within the home are seriously underrated. This is probably something to do with most peoples associations with the two colours: think black, think depressing – think white, think sparse? But what about when you combine the two? The combination of black and white in interior design can create stunning and dramatic spaces in any home providing each colour is used cleverly.

If you are afraid of using black and white in your home then you can, of course, add some variety. Perhaps you can add areas of pink, yellow or even purple for flashes of colour around a room. It is important, however, to keep the black and white prominent so as to preserve the elegant effect so often achieved with this pairing.

There are several ways in which you can incorporate this elegant feel to your home using black and white no matter what kind of room it is you are making over. Small rooms, for example, are a great place to opt for this colour scheme. Perhaps you have a small bathroom in your home- a black marble counter with a white and some metallic fixtures would look amazing. The same can also be applied in your kitchen. You may also want to move the theme over to the dining table.

To create a striking table setting you will ideally need to acquire some black and white China. It can of course also be one or the other as you can include the other colour via other elements of your table decoration- table linen, place mats, napkins etc. You may also want to consider adding flashes of colour in this instance also. Perhaps have a black and white kitchen with fuchsia accessories? Well then continue this theme onto your dining table by adding a bright centre piece.

Too clinical for the bedroom? I don't think so. Black iron is very popular in interior design so any bed incorporating such into its design is definitely a winner. Crisp white bed linens with an added black and white bed skirt and pillows would then be a perfect combination for the decoration. Again, if you want to you can switch it up with coloured and/or metallic throw cushions which can be repeated throughout the room on love seats or cosy chairs. You can obviously add further black elements to a room with lamps and other such hardware (rugs, frame, tables trims etc.)

Obviously too much black can be a little oppressive but when carefully used there are many benefits. However, you will also be happy, any maybe surprised, to hear that the colour black is said to act as a cocoon and therefore creates a safe haven within a home which allows residents to forget their daily stresses and presses. So, a little black could lighten the load!

Caring for Oak Wood

Oak is one of, if not the most beautiful wood types available. A beautiful piece of wooden furniture can add elegance, class and a warming feel all at the same time. The natural properties in this rich wood make it hard wearing and extremely durable, perfect for any home or family.

Quality wood needs to be respected and cared for and there are times when your oak furniture will need some extra care and attention. The tips below will ensure that you get the most out of your wood by keeping it looking good for years to come.

Water, heat and other dirty materials can all have a negative impact on the surface of your oak wood furniture. Rings from the bottoms of mugs and drinks glasses can leave a lasting impression, so be aware that coasters and cloths are a good form of prevention for this. While these stains and marks can be removed, they are best avoided from the outset; prevention is better than a cure.

Clean your wood at least once a month. Giving your oak a good rub down will ensure that all dirt, grease and grime is removed from the top surface. Dust gathers at a surprisingly fast rate, so be sure to dust often. Use furniture cleaner or polish with a decent quality cloth (one that will not harm the wood).

In the event that you create a stain you should try and remove it as quickly as possible. Using mineral spirits or other stain removal solutions you should be able to work the stain out with little effort. Usually, the stain will always look a little worse than it actually is, so above all... don’t panic!

Just like with stains, other chips, watermarks and even burns should be treated as soon as they are first noted. A deep chip may seem irreparable but talking with a furniture expert will put your mind at ease. Even the worst furniture chips can be repaired.

Make sure you know where to turn in the event that your furniture fails or become damaged. Oak is not a cheap piece of wood that can be replaced at the drop of a hat – it is lasting piece of wood that needs to be cared for. As it is a known piece of wood, there are experts who deal with it on a daily basis. Make sure you have the contact details for a wood specialist in your area in the event that emergency repairs are needed.
