“Don’t Label me” Campaign

My "Don't Label Me" campaign is part 1 of a bigger campaign called The Label Campaign” and is inspired by being involved in Stonham's Equality & Diversity steering group since Autumn 2008 till the present day.

As a part of the campaign I am launching a t-shirt range under the name "LefTees" where I use the 7 main strands (age, colour, disability, gender, religion, sexual orientation, transgender and potentially others...) to raise awareness, ideas, opinions and debates...broaden minds, break down stigmas, judgements and barriers.

The basic idea is to take a face, design it into a sticky label, and have a fitting negative/stereotypical label (word) underneath, with the Don’t Label Me logo slapped over it. On the reverse is a flipped silhouette of that face, filled with (personal) words, protesting...

The main goals is an educational one, to open people’s minds allowing them to destroy whatever barriers they have or have encountered. The Label Campaign being the umbrella over this part of the campaign, in its whole bigger scheme of things, will be designed to destroy stereotypical perceptions, alleviate ignorance and teach generations old and new about individualism!

I also wish to produce free material such as boom boxes, calendars, brochures/leaflets, postcards, bookmarks, badges, stickers, etc. to distribute among institutions, community and corporate buildings. Helping the public get a deeper, more realistic understanding of Equality & Diversity, and what it means within their agendas.

Design Spotlight – Yoskay

Today's Spotlight is with Yoskay Yamamoto, who recently had a couple of his design items featured in The London Evening Standard and Living Etc magazine. Here Yoskay talks abit about how flowers inspire and influence his work.

"I have been using flowers in my work for a of couple years. Last year I did a series of portraits called  'four season';"

"To me flowers carry the essence of growth, but also have such a fragile state. The cycle of growth, blossom, and decay echo the circular nature of life that I'm fascinated about"

My Cup of Tea

"My pillow is produced by the company, this is limited edition.  They originally approached me to design a Tea Cup and Saucer set and they were really happy with the design so they requested me to design a pillow case"

See more of Yoskay's inspirations and work at his website or find his items for sale at ClickForArt

Confined to a special edition of 200 copies, this project stands out for its innovative printing technique, risography held by London’s oldest printing company specialised in this type of printing - Ditto Press. Apart from a texture of its own, risography also allows the use of special colours, and Colher chose a garish and captivating fluorescent orange that gives other brilliance to the illustrations.
