Festive Decoration
Yes, inescapably it's that time of year again when all the old lights come out of the boxes and we spend half a day sprucing up the living room with a tree, tinsel, baubles - and if you're going for it, the other half of the day goes on the rest of the house. This can easily become a tedium, especially if you do more or less the same thing every year - so why not mix it up a little bit and bring the fun back into Christmas decorations?
One of the things you can do that many disregard these days is the traditional Christmas wreath. When people do use these, they're usually purchased and typical in the twisted branch and leaf approach. Why not have a bash at making one yourself - only breaking the norm? You can get perfectly aesthetic results from a circle made of wire adorned with tiny baubles made into a wreath shape, or even strands of pine bristles stuck all together. Just see what materials you have and let your creative juices flow!

Then it comes to the tree - does it have to be green, with the silver tinsel and gold baubles? Absolutely not! Come up with an idea and just go for it - why not a white tree with a candy cane theme, or a golden tree with nativity decorations? The options are limitless. And what about tinsel - does it have to be on the tree? Absolutely not! How about draping it from the ceiling and seeing what effects you can come up with?
All it needs is a break from routine and a little creativity and you'll escape the routine that too many of us associate with the 'necessary' decoration, and you'll have that little bit livelier Christmas!
Up-scaling your kitchen
When you've lived in a house for a few years, it's easy to get bored with its interior. However moving elsewhere isn't a realistic option for many us of these days, given rising house prices and the difficulties encountered when selling a house. As such, we need to find ways in which to makeover our houses without having to take out a second mortgage to pay for it.
One of the best ways in which to do this is to up-scale your kitchen. The kitchen is by far one of the most popular rooms in the house; when friends come over, that's where they congregate and when you make a big family dinner, everyone stands to have a chat in the kitchen. Thus it makes sense to spend a bit of money on making it a great space for everyone.
Although this will mean you have to spend a little bit of money, don't panic; because just by changing a few aspects, you'll feel as if you've had a whole new kitchen installed.
The first thing you could do is rip out your old worktop space and get some granite worktop quotes; but make sure you shop around for these to ensure you get the right price. Granite is the king of worktop materials - it's long-lasting, glamorous and easy to clean. It looks great and it's manageable...isn't that what every kitchen-lover is after?

Next, think about investing in some designer gadgets, like a MagiMix food processor or a KitchenAid mixer. These are amazing devices and will last you for a good 20-30 years, if not more. They look fantastic and will add a bit of pizazz to any kitchen. Not only that, but they're useful for making all sorts of delicious recipes too.
Lastly, a slick of paint will do wonders for your kitchen. Make sure you buy special kitchen paint, otherwise the walls will get grimy in no time and you won't be able to wipe them clean. This'll really brighten up the space and make you feel like you've really made the effort to tidy up your house - making you feel proud of it once again.
It’s all in the colour
So you've chosen the design for your pub chairs, and all you need to do now is to decide on a colour. Perhaps you should put more thought into this than you previously anticipated however, as did you know that each colour evokes a different feeling in people? Whilst one colour might put them off ordering another round, a different colour might prompt them to not only buy the next round, but to buy a few bags of crisps as well!
Here's a quick guide as to the different qualities each colour offers.
Green is a popular colour for pub chairs; it fits both men and women, so is seemingly a perfect choice. Well it may just be, as experts claim that the colour makes people feel secure. It also prompts them to think about environmental issues, and can encourage people to be friendlier towards their peers. White is another great colour to choose, as it's typically associated with peace and calm. However it might get a bit messy if used in a pub!

Blues are handy for making people feel serene. It again provokes a feeling of security, in addition to making people feel more trustworthy and less suspicious of others. However, along with other darker tones, it could evoke an attitude of high-class snobbishness, so be wary. The same could apply to black; however its sophisticated nature could also appeal to the audience you're after in your pub.
Onto the brighter palette; where orange, red and yellow lie. The latter evokes a sunny disposition. It makes people feel happy but a word to the wise - it can also make people more risk-averse, so they might choose to leave that last vodka and cranberry before heading home.
Red evokes danger, passion and heat. This could be the cause of fights amongst punters. Why not consider orange instead? It's a fairly positive, upbeat colour. It makes people feel excited and riled up - which could encourage them to order more drinks.
Home Library Ideas
The trusty book may be losing popularity, in favour of it's digital counterpart, the ebook and such. But books can still add a bit of class to any room. If your an avid reader like me at one point your books may have began to overwhelm your living space. Well there are numerous ways to organise your books, clear space and add a bit of class to your living space.
The Internet is full of exciting and interesting bookshelves to store your books. The design could be classic masculine dark leather study, comfy couches, large mahogany desks and accessorised with objects such as Globes and crystal decanters. The room could also be a more open feeling, modern, simple shelving. The choice of shelving units is limitless with numerous interesting design ideas to be found online. There are units with a seat built in, circular ones, series of shelves built into stairs.

Colour in a home library can be difficult. Many design articles will contain pictures where the books have a uniform colour, most of us don't buy our books based on their colour so it can be a bit more difficult to create a home library with a pleasant colour scheme. The best advise would be to keep the colour simple and soft, two tone and fitting with the theme.
You don't need an entire room for a home library but a spare corner with fitted shelving and a comfortable chair, preferably a recliner. The most important thing about a home library, is that it's comfortable and warm, where you can relax and spend hours during lazy Sunday afternoons or days off.
Studio Greenan
Studio Bram Greenen: Light Room Project
The Light Room project is a concept for the production of extremely light weight but strong pieces of furniture without losing any beauty in the designs result. The argument for a light weight product is that by stripping down a piece to its lightest value, is that energy consumption in its creation is lowered transport costs are also reduced and also the minimization of materials use gives a better rate of consumption and over all material use. The entire collection is currently in a prototype stage though the studio desires to make the furniture available as a product. The weight of all the products in the Light room collectively comes to around 7.5 kg which is astonishing considering that there primary function is usability.

Normally I would treat this with skepticism, though having researched the design process and materials used, I have no doubt that these pieces will be as strong and durable as they are aesthetically pleasing.
The chair and stool are the main stead of the studios design focus having worked on the stool since 2009 and the released the concept for the chair shortly after. They are titled the Gaudi Chair and Gaudi stool, in acknowledgement of Antonio Gaudí who’s hanging chain technique (combined with some computer wizardry) was used to get the structure in the two pieces.
In the light room we see the same a Dyneema version of the Gaudi Stool and the SLS Chair which is a variation on the Gaudi chair I think.

In addition to these pieces we can also see the development of three new pieces the Dyneema Chair:

Completely made from one material; Dyneema. Dyneema has the highest strength to weight ration of any manmade material in the world and is ideal for this kind of construction. Made from three variation of the material so that those parts that need to be malleable are, those that have to be ridged, remain that way.
Tensile Table:

Made from Silk and a Kevlar honeycomb.
And Gridshelf:

Made from Dyneema tensional cable, Aluminum and Glassfiber. The use of the diagonally crossed cables allows for the weight to be kept low as the system counteracts any deformation.

This is a florescent light...

Of sorts.
This is a prototype by Studio 1:1, designed to be a feature light, it uses fiber optic cables to form loops of light, which are both elegant and simple. The design uses a basic form and cleaver use of a reflective surface to create tranquilly in an ethereal pale. This stillness contrasted against the vitality of detail produce quite an exquisite and stylish contemporary lighting unit which comes with heaps of expression and dynamics.

Cables are woven to form a nest of crossing lines, forming a basic shell. These lines create an opportunity for an exponential amount of results, sourced from their placement we are presented with stunning effects. This fixture is a beautifully malleable piece of design work which allows, with easy, the sculpture of light.
The piece holds so many lives and in all it seems to excel with its leanings towards an artifact and with a switch flick becomes a functional accent lighting piece. I hope that this is one of many design endeavors as this was executed so succinctly.
